Why would I sign up for something like NaBloPoMo when obviously I need more to do like a hole in the head? It all boils down to this: it seems that when I make a commitment to do something small, but every day, it leads to an interesting outcome.
This daily stuff all started back in January, when on a whim I decided I should do a 365 days project. (taking a photo of myself daily for a year). At first it was new and exciting, and then a chore, and then about learning how to take better photos, and now it’s something I can’t quit because I am so freaking close to completing a year. The public nature of it keeps me accountable, which is key. But there is something about it that is very rewarding.
In some strange way I have found that it’s not very different from the commitment I have tried to honor for years about my Christianity: reading the Bible (quiet time, prayer, meditation, whatever you choose to call it) daily. In order to make it work and reap the benefit you have to put your “feelings” about it aside, and just make time to do it. I’m not saying I follow through with this all the time, but I try.
So along the same lines, I’m hoping for some unforeseen benefits from forcing myself to write every day. So that’s why.
